In collaboration with senior recruiter, Jennifer Morozowich, the Back to Basics edition saw the return of First Next Step as a live, in-person event. Jennifer did a great presentation on how to improve your elevator pitch. The crowd was a fantastic mix of people.

Shannon Hunter and Meg Button had been running a weekly hashtag project called #womenxwork. First Next Step offered it’s event format as a pre-holidays and get to know you session.
After seeing the trailer for Midsommar, and with tongue firmly in cheek, the Mid Summer edition kept people going.

Newly-formed user group, Women Who Freelance, collaborated with First Next Step for their first live event. Many pitchers and a great time overall.
The monthly creative technology user group partnered with First Next Step for a combined night. It was a lot of fun.
When local Toronto agency, ariad, closed its doors, it left it entire staff jobless. Hugh held an event for these former employees. When the event happened, no one from ariad showed up. Every audience member got up and spoke. Only four are listed here but it turned into a fantastic evening.
After some coaxing, Hugh put on a follow up event. With the removal of slides, the open mic went far smoother.
The inaugural First Next Step was a lot of fun and a learning experience. While initially thinking of allowing people to have their own slides to present, it became clear it hampered the flow of the event. Open mic and elevator pitch works great when everyone has the same stage.
