When local Toronto agency, ariad, closed its doors, it left it entire staff jobless. Hugh held an event for these former employees. When the event happened, no one from ariad showed up. Every audience member got up and spoke. Only four are listed here but it turned into a fantastic evening.
After some coaxing, Hugh put on a follow up event. With the removal of slides, the open mic went far smoother.
The inaugural First Next Step was a lot of fun and a learning experience. While initially thinking of allowing people to have their own slides to present, it became clear it hampered the flow of the event. Open mic and elevator pitch works great when everyone has the same stage.
